Menopause and PMS Clinics
Menopause Clinic (Thursday mornings)
Led by Mr Nick Panay and Ms Claudine Domoney
GP referrals via Choose and Book (Gynaecology—Menopause)
The clinic is supported by a strong team including a Menopause Nurse Specialist, registrars with special interest and a research fellow. We accept referrals for women who are having difficulty in finding the best regimen for their symptoms, side effects from their treatment or need specialist advice.
The clinic provides a holistic approach to the management of the menopause including: hormone replacement therapy (HRT), alternative & complimentary therapies and the management of long term health eg osteoporosis. Treatment and advice is individualised considering personal health risks and benefits. We will also see high risk women with a history of breast cancer, familial breast cancer or cardiovascular disease.
Premenstrual Syndrome and Premature Ovarian Failure Clinic (Thursday afternoons)
Led by Mr Panay
GP referrals via Choose and Book (Gynaecology—PMS and premature ovarian failure)
This clinic specifically benefits the younger women to meet their unique needs. A complimentary approach to PMS and POF is supported including the use of HRT. (HRT taken under the age of the natural is not associated with increased risks of breast cancer). Close links have been established with the fertility service for women also seeking fertility treatment.
All new patients are seen in the Thursday clinic within 2 weeks of referral. We may also refer on to other services if required:
- Those women on hormone implants are usually followed up in the specialist nurse clinic or where possible managed in the community
- Specialist care—Dieticians, clinical psychologist/psychosexual counsellor, physiotherapy, urogynaecology
