Research

“The aim of the Therapy Team at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is to deliver a high quality, dignified, timely, cost-effective and evidence-based service to all patients”.

What is evidenced-based practice?

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the method of treatment that all health professionals should practice.

EBP incorporates three concepts. The first is utilising the clinical expertise gained by the clinician from undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes.

The second involves listening to the patient to identify what is important for the individual.

The final component involves using the best research evidence to underpin clinical practice. The best treatments incorporate all these three concepts.

Members of the Therapy Department put considerable effort into reviewing the published research to ensure that the treatments being offered are based on the latest research.

Where research does not exist or there is uncertainty in the published literature, the Therapy Department has an active research programme to fill these gaps in our knowledge.

We are proud that we have one of the most research active departments in the UK and have achieved international recognition for the work we have been doing.
