Pain Management Services
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient Acute & Chronic Pain Services in conjunction with the Magill Department of Anaesthetics. There are two inpatient beds for inpatient management of chronic malignant and non-malignant pain for patients that require interventional therapy. There is consultant advice to other clinical services within the hospital for the management for of chronic pain.
The Chronic Pain Management Unit provides a multidisciplinary service for patients with chronic pain. Both assessments and therapies are offered in an out-patient and in-patient setting.
There are 5 Chronic Pain Consultants:

- Dr Ian Goodall
- Dr Andrew Rice
- Dr Rahul Seewal
- Dr Susan Childs (Psychologist)
There is also one Advanced Pain Trainee—Senior SpR
There is also access to pain psychologists and physiotherapists. They offer a comprehensive service with diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.
There are two referral pathways for the service. If patients fit the rapid access referral criteria they will be assessed in rapid access outpatient appointment. Otherwise they will receive a standard access pain management appointment.
There is also a Lower Back Pain Triage service based on a multidisciplinary team network for patients presented to the Trust with mechanical lower back pain.
The Psychology and Pain Management Programmes services are run by Dr Susan Childs and Dr Ian Goodall

The patient care includes the normal range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, as well as:
- back pain triage
- neuroblockage
- drug review
- transcutaneous nerve simulation
- epidurals
- dorsal column stimulation and
- pain managerment programmes
- pain management physiotherapy
There is a regular teaching programme for nurses, ward staff and doctors, and continuous audit of practices and results.
