Pharmacy

What we do

Both hospitals have modern, effective pharmacy services which provide safe and efficient support for patients.

Our services

  • Dispensary services: Medicines for patients admitted to the hospital (inpatient) and those issued prescriptions during their clinic visit (outpatients)
  • Clinical pharmacy services: Specialist pharmacist support at ward level, including medicines review, information and advice, identification and management of complex pharmaceutical needs for patients, and ensuring safe and cost-effective prescription practices
  • Technical services: Prepares specialist formulations in a sterile environment for intravenous therapies such as chemotherapy
  • Medicines information: Advice for patients and health professionals on all aspects of medicine use, managing medicine supply for clinical trials and supporting anticoagulant and other outpatient clinics to monitor patients on particular types of medication
  • Homecare services: Providing a specialist service for high-cost medication via third party companies to deliver medication direct to the patient’s home or other agreed facility, ensuring safe and cost-effective prescription practices
  • Clinics: Pharmacists support clinicians with outpatient clinics in haematology, anti-coagulation and neurology
  • Distribution services: Supplying Trust wards and departments internally and externally with appropriate stock medication supplies

At Chelsea and Westminster Hospital there are also HIV/GUM satellite dispensaries that provide a dedicated service for patients attending community sexual health clinics.

Our team

Our teams consist of pharmacists (including specialists), pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants and other support staff who work together to provide a comprehensive pharmacy service. Pharmacy services at the Trust are led by Chief Pharmacist Deirdre Linnard.
