Respiratory Medicine
A comprehensive service is provided for all respiratory problems requiring in-patient and out-patient care.
The hospital is able to provide in-patient non-invasive ventilation in a high dependency area under the guidance of the Respiratory team who have close links to the Intensive Care Unit. The respiratory department has an interest in interventional bronchoscopy using state of the art techniques with weekly bronchoscopy lists.
There are several general respiratory clinics per week in addition to a joint multi-disciplinary lung cancer clinic with oncology, palliative care and thoracic surgery in-put, a TB clinic and a sleep & ventilation and interstitial lung disease clinic. A one-stop chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) clinic has recently been started where patients have a chest X-ray, lung function tests and a clinic consultation all in one visit.
Specialist Respiratory Nurses provide care in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and tuberculosis.
