Respiratory medicine

What we do

A comprehensive respiratory service is provided for all inpatients and outpatients across both Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital.  We treat the following conditions:

  • Asthma
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Interstitial lung diseases
  • Lung cancer
  • Respiratory failure
  • Respiratory infections including TB
  • Sleep-disordered breathing
  • Stop smoking service

Outpatient services include: five general respiratory clinics per week (including provision for military patients), a joint multi-disciplinary lung cancer clinic with oncology, palliative care and thoracic surgery in-put, a TB clinic, a COPD clinic and a sleep & ventilation clinic. These are supported on-site by a lung function lab, pulmonary rehabilitation physiotherapy and Quit Smoking services.

The respiratory team looks after admitted patients on a designated ward located next to the acute assessment unit (AAU). The hospital is able to provide inpatient non-invasive ventilation in a high dependency area on AAU under the guidance of the acute medical team who have close links to the Intensive Care Unit. Specialist Respiratory Nurses provide care in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and tuberculosis.

Our team

Our respiratory team consists of Dr Gary Davies, Dr Michael Loebinger, Dr Tom Newsom-Davis, Dr Pallav Shah and Dr Suveer Singh. The clinical lead for respiratory medicine is Dr Dilys Lai.
