Clinics and specialist services

What we do

We run several cardiology clinics and specialist services to provide rapid assessment and tailored care for people experiencing heart problems.

General Cardiology Clinic

General outpatient clinics are run daily at both hospitals, they provide the full range of secondary care services and work closely with diagnostic services.

One Stop Clinic

Both hospitals run a one stop clinic to offer rapid access to all of the usual non-invasive cardiology investigations together with consultant input from one of our cardiologists. Routine patients are seen in approximately four weeks, while urgent patients are given priority of between one and two weeks.

Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic

The Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic (RACPC) provides specialist assessment for people who present to their GP with symptoms of suspected new onset angina. The service provides:

  • Rapid assessment and diagnosis of patients with suspected angina
  • Information on evidence-based treatment options and development of a management plan
  • Estimate of overall cardiac risk and information on individual risk factors
  • Reassurance for patients and their families

The RACPC empowers people to think about how their lifestyle may be affecting their health and offers support to help bring about behaviour changes. The key to the clinic’s success is the collaboration not only between patients and the service, but also close working with GPs, A&E staff, specialist nurses and any other physician referring people to the clinic.
