Acute Oncology Service

AOS aims to provide a co-ordinated approach to the care of patients with cancer related emergencies attending A+E. Our goal is to provide a timely specialist oncology review for advice and guidance. This may include:

  • A new cancer presentation
  • Side effects of treatments such as Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT: chemotherapy, immunotherapy), biological treatments, hormone therapy or radiotherapy 
  • Side effects of the cancer diagnosis, such as Neutropenic sepsis, Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression (MSCC), Superior Vena Cava Obstruction (SVCO) or malignant hypercalcaemia
