STI clinics (otherwise known as genito-urinary medicine clinics) enable this by offering testing for sexually transmitted infections contraceptives, condoms, pregnancy testing, vaccinations, sexual health promotion, safer sex education and support/counselling. These STI clinics offer services by appointment or on a walk-in basis, are free of charge, and staffed by trained professionals.


Common services of an STI clinic

  • Full sexually transmitted infection screening including testing for Chlamydia, gonorrhoea, bacterial vaginosis, candida and trichomonas, HIV and syphilis
  • Hepatitis B and C screening and Hepatitis B vaccination for at risk people and we can examine genitals for signs of herpes and warts
  • Full range of contraceptives including pills, coils, injections, implants and emergency hormonal contraception
  • Pregnancy testing and referrals for termination of pregnancy
  • Sexual health advice and counselling
  • Post exposure HIV prophylaxis (PEP)
  • Free condoms
  • Information and advice on any aspect of sexual health, from herpes symptoms to details of HIV transmission.

You don’t have to be referred to an STI clinic by your doctor nor do you need to live in the local area.
