Genito-Urinary (GUM) Clinics
A Genito-Urinary Medicine clinic, or GUM clinic, specialises in the detection and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, the provision of contraception, and promoting sexual health and well-being. The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has three GUM clinics that provide comprehensive sexual health services free of charge.
Some of the services we can provide include:
- Testing for a range of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomonas and syphilis
- Pregnancy tests
- A full range of contraceptives, including condoms, implants, coils and the morning after pill
Follow-up care for patients who are HIV+ - Screening for Hepatitis B and C, and Hepatitis B vaccinations for at-risk individuals
You do not need a referral from your GP to visit a GUM clinic, nor do you need to live locally to attend. Our friendly and highly-trained staff will ensure your confidentiality is maintained throughout your visit.

Our three sexual health (GUM) clinics offer a broad spectrum of sexual health services to patients, as well as invaluable information and advice on every aspect of sexual wellbeing. The three clinics are:
Certain groups of people can be especially affected by STIs. Our clinics offer specialist or outreach services specifically for these groups which include:
- Young people under the age of 19.
- Individuals from black and ethnic minority communities.
- Men who have sex with men
- HIVinfected persons
- Commercial sex workers
Our GUM clinics provide services on a walk-in basis, but it's usually better to make an appointment first to avoid waiting when you arrive. Our dedicated staff will provide you with a friendly welcome and help with any sexual issues you may be facing.
