    346-jupiter.jpgJupiter Ward (Adolescent Unit)

Jupiter Ward is a unique adolescent unit. We care for young people aged 11–16 (including emergency and elective admissions) and are one of the few such facilities to do this. Nursing staff don’t wear traditional hospital uniforms, although all are identified with name badges. We have a chill out room for young people to use and make friends, watch a movie or play computer games. We have separate sleeping areas for boys and girls.

All of our staff are passionate about providing the best possible care for young people and are experienced in looking after this age group. We care for patients with medical or surgical needs but we also encompass many other sub-specialties such as mental health, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, oncology, neurology, dermatology, plastic surgery, ear, nose and throat (ENT), and craniofacial.

The ward tries to foster independence with young people, and for that reason we do not encourage parents to be resident overnight. We have close links with the hospital school as well as local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and various other support agencies and departments within the hospital to help young people reach their full potential and transition into adult life. We are situated on the 4th Floor, Lift Bank C.

The ward is supported by an excellent team of Doctors, Nurses, Play specialists, Support Workers and Domestic staff and the team endeavour to ensure the admission is as of the highest quality. The unit is located on the 1st Floor and has a high nursing to patient ratio (one nurse for every two patients). The staff who work here are all trained children’s nurses who are qualified in advanced life support and high dependency. Paediatric Ambulatory Care Clinic (PACC)

PACC is designed to reduce the length of stay in hospital and ensure treatments and procedures are undertaken in a specialist area by experienced nursing staff. The clinics are nurse led and provide the most effective way to continuing treatment for our patients. Many follow up dressings, allergy tests and infusions are undertaken in this clinic as well as specific nurse lead clinics such as Ponsetti, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Oncology and Urology. The ward is part of Saturn and is located on the 4th Floor, Lift Bank B.
