Profile

Dr Anton Pozniak is HIV Service Director the TB Service Lead and services on the Trust Antibiotic policy group. He studied medicine at the University of Bristol and qualified in 1979. Dr Pozniak started caring for patients with HIV in 1983 at the Middlesex Hospital, London. He went to Zimbabwe as a Consultant Physician in 1989 where he researched for his doctorate in TB/HIV and then moved back to the UK in 1991. Dr Pozniak ran the HIV research unit at King’s College, London before moving to his current position as Consultant Physician/Senior Lecturer at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in 1998, where he is an executive director of HIV research and Director of HIV services. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1996 and has been made a Life member of the British HIV Association. He also helped write the British HIV Association (BHIVA) anti-viral HIV guidelines and chairs the TB/HIV guidelines committee. Dr Pozniak was an advisor on HIV and AIDS to the UK Government Health Select Committee and is on the Expert advisory group on AIDS for the UK Department of Health. He is a DSMB member for the MRC PENTA and Arrow and DSMB Chair of ACT consortium PK trials. He is an executive member of the European AIDS Clinical Society and on the Governing Council of the International AIDS Society, as well as Vice Chair of the European AIDS trial network NEAT. Dr Pozniak is on the Scientific Advisory Board and executive committee of the charities LEPRA and St Stephens AIDS Trust. He has been a Principal Investigator and Collaborator on many Therapeutic Clinical Trials of HIV therapies. He has published on many aspects of tuberculosis especially regarding the association with HIV. Dr Pozniak has published over 200 articles, authored several book chapters and is section editor for current opinions in HIV and STDs.
