West Middlesex University Hospital’s in-house stop smoking service is urging smokers to quit during October as part of the national Stoptober campaign.

Stoptober is a 28-day challenge which aims to help smokers kick the habit for good. Evidence shows that if smokers can stay smoke free for 28 days then they are five times more likely to stop all together.

West Middlesex’s stop smoking service offers advice and support to help smokers every step of the way whilst giving up. Evidence shows that using NHS services, which provide motivational support alongside medication, is the most successful way to quit smoking with smokers four times more likely to succeed with NHS support.

Hounslow smokers taking part in Stoptober also have an extra incentive to quit with the chance of winning an iPad if they attend a local stop smoking clinic and set a quit date between Thursday 1 and Saturday 31 October 2015. Eva Gates, Stop Smoking Specialist at West Middlesex said: “We understand that the majority of smokers want to stop smoking, but many find the task too daunting. Stoptober is the perfect opportunity to inspire smokers in Hounslow to quit for good.

“With support, smokers are more likely to succeed in their attempt to quit. That is why West Middlesex Hospital is supporting the Stoptober campaign and will be educating smokers on the range of local services and resources available to them.”
