This week, West Middlesex University Hospital has proudly presented the Care Certificate to 12 healthcare assistants who have recently completed the nationally recognised qualification.

The Care Certificate, launched in March 2015, aims to equip health and social care support workers with the knowledge and skills they need in order to provide safe and compassionate care. Developed by Health Education England, Skills for Care and Skills for Health, the Care Certificate provides evidence to employers and patients that the health care support worker has been assessed against a specific set of standards and can provide high quality care and support.

The Care Certificate standards include duty of care, communication, privacy and dignity, infection prevention and control and basic life support, among others. The process of achieving the certificate has taken these staff members several months of hard work and dedication to complete.

Also presented were Local Registration Certificates to current staff who have completed West Mid Competency Books and signed up to the HCA code of Conduct.

The certificates were handed out in a presentation ceremony on Monday 4 April attended by Lucy Flanagan (Director of Nursing), Gaynor Phillips (Practice Development Facilitator and HCA Lead) and Christine Catlin (Assistant Director of Learning and Organisational Development).

Lucy said: “I started my nursing career as a healthcare assistant and I know first-hand how invaluable you are for our patients and our workforce. I am delighted to see so many of you achieving the Care Certificate at West Mid, well done to you all for providing brilliant high quality care to our patients.”
