Staff survey 2014

All staff working at Chelsea and Westminster have a view on what it’s like to work here, and staff are invited to share their experience confidentially through the national NHS Staff Survey.

The staff survey is a opportunity to give feedback and enable staff concerns to be addressed. All staff are encouraged to complete the NHS national Staff Survey, which they should have received by early October.

Managers should have:

  • Distributed the survey to their staff during early October
  • Encouraged and explained to their staff how much they value their feedback
  • Fed back to their teams on progress and actions taken since the last survey
  • Offered protected time for staff to complete the survey

All completed surveys questionnaires are posted directly to Capita, an independent organisation, so what staff say in their survey remains completely confidential. The deadline for completed surveys to be received by Capita is 3 December.

Last year, we had a response rate of 61% and retained our place among the top 20% of NHS Acute Trusts. Here is what we did after your feedback last year:

Appraisals

  • Increased the number of training sessions on conducting effective appraisals for managers
  • Developed new guidance for managers

Training

  • Produced mandatory training reports to help managers identifying those requiring training and explain how to access it
  • Equality and Diversity training has been reviewed and is now included in corporate induction
  • Launched non-clinical DVD training, which includes a general awareness Equality and Diversity module

Handwashing

  • Areas where hand washing materials availability was poor were identified and we have worked with managers to increase accessibility to materials in these areas.

Health and wellbeing at work

  • Managers have been tasked with increasing awareness of the importance of reporting abuse via their local staff meetings
  • Stress in the workplace audits have been reviewed to improve awareness of the support and resources available to staff to reduce stress

Staff should look out for their survey and complete it during October and November—we really want to hear from as many  as possible to help make improvements.
