Lesley Watts (Chief Executive, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) said: “Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has received 21 casualties, four of whom were children. We currently have five critically ill patients in the hospital and a small number of less seriously injured patients.

“Our major incident plans have been highly effective. Staff were mobilised rapidly to manage the sudden influx of patients and everyone worked together as a team.
“I want to thank all our staff, and our colleagues in the health, social care and emergency services, for the incredible work they have carried out today under difficult circumstances.
“Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy.”
