Another successful Health and Wellbeing event for cancer patients at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital

23 November 2016

Professionals at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Brompton NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust have come together to deliver another successful Health and Wellbeing event for people affected by lung cancer.

Professionals at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Brompton NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust have come together to deliver another successful Health and Wellbeing event for people affected by lung cancer. The three hospitals are working together to pool resources in order to provide regular Wellbeing events as part of the National Cancer Survivorship Initiative.

Wellbeing events are one element of the Recovery Package; a series of interventions aimed at supporting patients living with and beyond cancer. Wellbeing events aim to share information and techniques for patients and their carers to use to help them self-manage their health and wellbeing, improve their quality of life and potentially reduce their need for services.

During this November Wellbeing event, there were talks delivered by professionals to 20 patients and carers with over 100 patients benefitting from these events each year. Talks and stalls provided information on:

  • Diet and healthy eating
  • Keeping active
  • Managing stress
  • Stopping smoking
  • Singing for health
  • Q&A with CNSs
  • Occupational therapy
  • Macmillan cancer support
  • Complementary therapy

With special thanks to the Friends of the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for generously providing refreshments and lunch for participants on this day.
