    There may be four days to go until Christmas but a group of people who ply their trade in red and white have already been to West Middlesex University Hospital bearing gifts this week. Six Brentford First Team players spread a little festive cheer at the Children’s Ward at the Isleworth hospital this week.

    West Middlesex University Hospital lead nurse specialist Tracey Virgin-Elliston has been awarded Stoma Care Nurse of the Year in recognition of her work improving care for patients living with this often debilitating condition.

    This weeks planned action includes RMT (conductor strike) and ASLEF (drivers’ strike). Whilst commuters are used to weekly RMT strikes, we are warned that ASLEF strikes mean that there will be no Southern trains on most routes.

  • Stay well this winter

    Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is supporting the 2016 NHS Stay Well This Winter campaign. The Stay Well This Winter campaign is a joint initiative from NHS England and Public Health England, to help people with long-term health conditions and those over 65 prepare for winter and ward off common winter illnesses.

  • Join us for an annual event to celebrate and remember the lives of loved ones

    Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital are holding an annual ‘Light up a Life’ event, which is a non-religious occasion to celebrate and remember loved ones and patients who are no longer with us. The service includes a minute’s silence, music and readings, followed by refreshments.

  • Chelsea and Westminster and West Middlesex fighting flu this winter

    Staff at Chelsea and Westminster and West Middlesex University Hospital are together working hard to reduce the spread of seasonal influenza (flu) this winter by vaccinating as many frontline staff as possible. The trust had the second highest uptake up-take last winter from its staff for the flu jab and since starting the campaign on 3 October some 744 / 23% of front line staff have been vaccinated already.

  • Trust leading the way in research

    Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has once again seen a boost in the number of studies offered to patients. According to league tables published today the Trust came third in North West London for the number of research studies opened in 2015/16 and second after Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust when it came to the increase in the number of studies compared to the previous year and fifth in the country.

    West Middlesex University Hospital is backing a dementia-friendly campaign. The hospital has introduced more flexible arrangements for carers visiting their loved ones who have dementia.

    The British Medical Association (BMA) has suspended the industrial action planned for the week of 12 September.   • Pathology services in North West London strengthened by merger

    Pathology services in three North West London Trusts have joined forces to create a modern and more efficient service. Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have agreed to consolidate their pathology services to better manage demand, standardise operations, improve value for money and make use of new technologies.

  • New cardiology service set to benefit local community

    A brand new service for people with heart conditions is set to bring a range of benefits to the local community. West Middlesex University Hospital is expanding its existing cardiology service so that patients, as well as their family and friends, will no longer need to travel to other hospitals for diagnosis and treatment of common heart conditions.

    On the 30 and 31 July, Prudential RideLondon, a world-class festival of cycling, is taking place in central London and Surrey. On Saturday 30 July the Freecycle is taking place around central London and on Sunday 31 July the RideLondon Surrey 100, RideLondon-Surrey 46 and RideLondon Classic take place throughout London and Surrey.
  • Hospital staff take on 100 mile cycling challenge for bowel cancer

    Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon, Peter Dawson, and Colorectal Nurse Endoscopist, Charlotte Dawson from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are cycling the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 mile challenge on Sunday 31st July to raise awareness and fundraise for the charity Beating Bowel Cancer.

  • High obesity rates put children in Hounslow at higher risk of diabetes

    In the London Borough of Hounslow, nearly a quarter of children (23.9%) in Year 6 are classified obese, worse than the average in England, and nearly 22% of adults in Hounslow are obese. Comparing obesity data in Hounslow to the national picture and neighbouring Richmond Upon Thames, it is apparent that there is a continued increase in obesity in Hounslow.

    Foundation Trust members are invited to learn about diabetes at an upcoming health education event hosted by clinicians at West Middlesex University Hospital. Incidence of diabetes is relatively high in Hounslow and Richmond—with 1 in 5 of the hospital’s inpatients patients having the condition—making education essential in preventing the onset of type 2 diabetes.
