22 December 2015

Do you approach each new year full of good intentions, only to see them vanish in the smoke of yet another cigarette? This year we propose that you don’t just make a resolution—act on one!

Do you approach each new year full of good intentions, only to see them vanish in the smoke of yet another cigarette? This year we propose that you don’t just make a resolution—act on one!

The West Mid in-house Stop Smoking Service can help. With specialist support and medication, patients, staff and visitors all have a great chance of stopping smoking for good.

In fact, you are four times more likely to quit with the NHS so why not give it a try? All you need to do is contact the Stop Smoking Team on 0208 321 5188.

Alternatively, pop in to our West Mid walk-in clinic every Wednesday at 4:45-5:45pm in OPD 2 Chest clinic.

In the meantime, here are some Top Tips for successfully quitting:

  • Be prepared and think about when and why you smoke
  • What are your triggers and how will you manage them when you quit?
  • Distract yourself with activities and keeping busy
  • Choose a quit date that is unlikely to be stressful and get rid of any cigarettes, matches or lighters the night before
  • Keep reminding yourself why you are stopping, and that there is never ‘just one cigarette’
  • Work out how much money you will save by quitting and what you could spend it on instead.
