The UK is currently experiencing a particularly hot spell of weather and has moved to Heat-Health Alert level 2 (60% probability of heatwave conditions between 8am on Friday and 8am on Sunday in parts of England). We are following our Heat Wave Emergency Plan and taking the appropriate actions.

For many of us, this is a glorious spell of sunshine that we are enjoying but some people are particularly vulnerable in the heat—those with heart, respiratory and serious health problems are more at risk and the heat can make these conditions worse. Babies and young children are also especially at risk.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital’s A&E service is experiencing a higher number of patient visits due to the heat. A&E should only be used in an emergency so please avoid unnecessary visits if your symptoms are mild. Ensure you drink plenty of water, wear a hat and sunscreen and keep an eye on vulnerable people around you.

Danger symptoms to watch out for in hot weather include feeling faint and dizzy, short of breath, vomiting or increasing confusion. Take immediate action if danger symptoms of heatstroke are present—cool down as quickly as possible.

There is a wealth of advice and information on the NHS Choices website about to keep cool and safe during this warm weather.
