Their winning case, ‘The Chelsea Challenge’ addressing the question ‘What truly is current best practice for the assessment and treatment of diabetic macular edema’, described their multi-faceted approach, in close collaboration with the endocrinology team, for the management of persistent fluid in the nerve layer of the eye in diabetic patients, resulting in blurred vision.

Nursing Times Nomination for CliniQ at Dean Street

CliniQ at 56 Dean Street won the Enhancing Patient Dignity category at the Nursing Times Awards on Wednesday 29 October.

Top employers for working Families

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is the only NHS organisation to be named in the top 30 employers for working families 2014.  The Working Families awards recognise companies who have a track record in family friendly and flexible working and continue to adjust and refine policies in response to employee and business needs.

Excellent rating in Baby Friendly Initiative

In October the auditors for the UNICEF baby friendly awards visited the Trust to re-inspect the hospital to ensure we are maintaining our baby friendly status, which we have held for the last two years.

Vivien Bell, Head of Midwifery, said: “I am delighted to say we passed today with an excellent rating. Breastfeeding reduces the risk of babies becoming ill and it is also associated with a reduced risk of later childhood disease and protects the mother’s health.

“I would like to say massive congratulations to the infant feeding team, the midwives, nurses and doctors who all took part in the audit, along with 35 mothers. This is a quality marker that we are proud to hold.”

The UK Baby Friendly Initiative is based on a global accreditation programme of UNICEF and the World Health Organization. It is designed to support breastfeeding and parent infant relationships by working with public services to improve standards of care.
