We are “By Your Side”

Attending hospital appointments on your own can be difficult for everyone but if you have additional support needs it can be a very stressful experience.

Attending hospital appointments on your own can be difficult for everyone but if you have additional support needs it can be a very stressful experience.

To make your visit less stressful you can request the By Your Side service which provides a volunteer escorting assistance for patients with additional support needs.

The service is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Please submit your request at least one week in advance of your appointment.

You can request the By Your Side service in one of the following ways:

  • The Your Hospital Visit section on this website
  • Pick up a referral form from the PALS office on the Ground Floor near the escalators
  • Call the office on 020 3315 6864 and leave a message including your full name and telephone number and we will call you back.

Once we have received a request we will contact the patient or the person requesting the service to establish their requirements.

A volunteer will greet the patients when they arrive at the hospital and they will be escorted to their outpatient appointment. The volunteer will make sure that the patients’ needs are met. At the end of the appointment the patient will be escorted back to the main hospital entrance or the transport lounge.

The By Your Side is one of the services provided by the Friends Patient Support Project. For more information about this project please request additional support or see the Additional Support Services leaflet from the PALS office.

Our aim is to make Chelsea and Westminster Hospital a friendly place for all our patients, by making sure they have the support they need.
