For many of us, this is a glorious spell of sunshine that we are enjoying but some people are particularly vulnerable in the heat—those with heart, respiratory and serious health problems are more at risk and the heat can make these conditions worse. Babies and young children are also especially at risk.

Please ensure you drink plenty of water, wear a hat and sunscreen and keep an eye on vulnerable people around you.

Danger symptoms to watch out for in hot weather include feeling faint and dizzy, short of breath, vomiting or increasing confusion. Take immediate action if danger symptoms of heatstroke are present—cool down as quickly as possible. Many prescription medicines can reduce your tolerance of heat. You should keep taking your medicines, but take extra care to keep cool. Do not take paracetamol—this can make you worse—but do carry on taking all other prescribed medicines.

There is a wealth of advice and information on the NHS Choices website about to keep cool and safe during this warm weather.
