Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has won two prestigious national awards recognising the hospital’s commitment to a healthy work-life balance for its staff. The Trust were joint winners of the Best for Childcare award, with Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, and named in the Top 21 Employers for Working Families 2013 at the 2013 Working Families Awards.

Chelsea and Westminster was the only NHS organisation in the Top 21 Employers category. The Working Families Awards cover the whole of the UK and recognise employers who support parents, carers and flexible workers with work-life balance and career development.

Susan Young, Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development, said: “Supporting staff to have a good work-life balance is crucial to maintain a healthy, motivated and caring team. Often in healthcare the hours are long and the workload is demanding.

“We want to ensure all staff have a healthy lifestyle and a fundamental part of this is making sure that individuals have a healthy balance between working and relaxation. Being a 24/7 organisation we have many opportunities to allow staff to work flexible hours. We are aware that there is still more that we can offer staff to support their work-life balance we are proud of the achievements we have made in this area so far.”

The awards are now in their fifth year and Chelsea and Westminster were also successful in 2012, winning the Best for Carers and Elder Care Award and named in the Top 21 Employers.

Susan concluded: “I’d like to congratulate our team in human resources who are responsible for this area of work for the Trust and thank them for all the work they do to support staff at Chelsea and Westminster.”
