  • Friends and Family Test launch in Queen Mary Maternity Unit

    Tomorrow (1 October) West Middlesex University Hospital will launch the Friends and Family Test (FFT) in the Queen Mary Maternity Unit. The FFT is a simple survey that asks patients whether they would recommend hospital services to their friends and family.
  • Excellence in Education Award for Professor Barry Jubraj

    The 2013 Royal Pharmaceutical Society Awards were presented at a gala dinner in September at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Conference to celebrate the achievements of teams and individuals within the pharmacy profession.

    The Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, has this week announced that NHS England is to receive £250 million funding to help address the expected surge in patients attending A&E departments over the winter period and the anticipated increase in admissions.

    Libby McManus has been appointed as Director of Nursing and Quality. She has been Chief Nurse at York Teaching Hospital since 2007 and has extensive leadership experience, having performed a range of senior NHS nursing and operational roles across England.

  • Canine compassion helping patients on Nell Gwynne ward

    Patients on the Nell Gwynne stroke unit are benefiting from therapy of a different kind. Every Wednesday Humphrey, the standard long-haired Dachshund, spends the morning in the day room where patients can visit him for a therapy session.
  • A decade of cancer care at Chelsea and Westminster

    This year marks the 10th anniversary of The Macmillan Centre at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Built in 2003 with generous funding from Macmillan Cancer Support, the centre has helped over 20,000 people through its information, counselling and complementary therapy services.

    Sheena Patel (Specialist Anticoagulation Pharmacist), Dr Helen Yarranton (Consultant Haematologist) and Mr Amer Raza (Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist) were awarded the ‘Best Obstetrics Venous Thromboembolism Prevention Programme’ on 4 February 2013 at the National Lifeblood VTE Awards.

    Two runners are taking on the challenge of the London Marathon in April to raise money for The Pluto Appeal—a fundraising drive by the Children’s Hospital Trust Fund to buy London's first robot to perform delicate and complex operations on children and babies.

  • Women’s health evening

    Women living with HIV are often underrepresented in patient forums. To address this on the 6 February the HIV Patient Forum held its first open evening for women living with HIV in London. The aim was to provide information on a range of women’s health topics and to engage women in the development of our future services so they better meet their needs.

    The Children’s Hospital Trust Fund put smiles on the faces of 80 children at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital by organising for the charity’s Chairman and Senior Consultant Paediatric Surgeon, Mr Munther Haddad, to play the part of Santa and surprise the children with gifts provided by local businesses.
  • Annabel wins London Midwife of the Year accolade

    Chelsea and Westminster midwife Annabel Bryant has been announced as the winner of the Midwife of the Year 2013 for the London & South East region in the Royal College of Midwives Annual Awards.
