Urgent Care Centre open to children—Tuesday 5 April

01 April 2011

Our Urgent Care Centre (UCC) has been developed in partnership with local GPs to provide faster assessment in A&E and ensure that patients receive the right care in the right place.

Our Urgent Care Centre (UCC) has been developed in partnership with local GPs to provide faster assessment in A&E and ensure that patients receive the right care in the right place. It opened to adult patients last October and is extended to children from Tuesday 5 April.

The UCC is a ‘walk-in’ service for patients who come to A&E with minor illnesses and injuries that require attention but that are not critical or life-threatening while A&E continues to treat acutely unwell patients.

Streaming means that patients are booked in at reception and then allocated to the appropriate care pathway—either A&E or UCC—so that A&E staff can concentrate on providing care and treatment for those patients who really need their help.
