Staff at 56 Dean Street, our popular sexual health and HIV centre in Soho, have been shortlisted for no less than four national awards for their innovative campaign to raise awareness of rapid HIV testing.

56 Dean Street offers free, confidential walk-in HIV testing throughout opening hours with results available in just five minutes.

The centre is open 8am–7pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 12-4pm Wednesday, 9am–4pm Friday and 11am–4pm Saturday.

The ‘Faster, Closer, Earlier’ campaign with 90TEN Healthcare to raise awareness of rapid HIV testing has been shortlisted in two categories of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ Excellence Awards 2011 and also in two categories of the Communique Awards 2011.

The campaign used initiatives such as street graffiti, a branded high-performance sports car, and partnerships with sports clubs and bars to help increase the number of new HIV diagnoses at the clinic by 24% and boosted awareness of testing through extensive, targeted media coverage.

Dr Alan McOwan, Service Director for Sexual Health at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, commented: “Beyond the excitement of the campaign—which was significant—its underlying legacy is in helping to extend the lives of those people we’ve diagnosed sooner and those we’ve helped to educate.

“I’m delighted that the creativity and innovation that went into this campaign has been recognised.”
