There were Christmas cheers all round on Thursday 18 December as staff at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital received prizes for all their hard work over the past year.

The Christmas Cheer Awards are an annual event for staff at the hospital with fabulous prizes funded by monetary contributions from Trust Directors and donations by local businesses and companies.

Staff were asked to nominate individual colleagues and teams who bring a cheerful, positive attitude to their work. This year there was a record 320 nominations from staff, volunteers and patients.

All the winners received prizes from Chief Executive, Heather Lawrence at a special awards ceremony on Thursday 18 December.

The winners included 47 individual members of staff. Tracey Dowling, Social Paediatric Officer, Community Paediatrics received the most nominations with 30 colleagues nominating her.

One of her colleagues, Lorraine Broadbent, said: "Tracey is always a pleasure to be around and cheers up the day for everyone, and she helped raise loads of money for Children in Need."

Shakun Chavan, a housekeeper on the hospital's private maternity unit, The Kensington Wing, was nominated by 27 of her colleagues (she also won a Christmas Cheer Award last year when she was a Housekeeper on the Burns Unit, when she was nominated by 35 staff).

Charlotte Sono-Petty said: "Shakun is cheerful at all times. She is hardworking and nothing is too much trouble for her. She is friendly with everyone and we love her."

The team award went to three housekeeping staff on David Erskine Ward – Sidi Seth, Abay Koroma and Abdul Kabia.

They were nominated by 40 staff on David Erskine Ward who said: "Their smiles would light up any Christmas tree – they are kind, caring and simply wonderful. They will always do anything to help our patients and the ward team. They go that 'extra mile' every time."
