Baroness Cox accompanied Daniel Lillis on a visit to the children's department of the University Hospital in Yerevan as Daniel continued his journey called The Children's Hospital Trust Fund Great Marco Polo Expedition.

The visit was followed by a reception at the Armenia Marriott Hotel in Yerevan sponsored by Marriott and Lufthansa German Airlines. Guests included members of the diplomatic community and the media, hospital staff and a group from Britain accompanying Lady Cox on her current visit to Armenia.

Lady Cox said: "I am delighted to be able to support The Children's Hospital Trust and their partner agency BirthLink on this visit. I was very moved and impressed by the huge efforts which staff at the hospital are making to improve the care of sick children. The need is there and we must respond to it."

Daniel Lillis said: "I am very honoured that Lady Cox agreed to make this visit with me today. As I travel on this epic journey from Venice to Beijing, it is my hope that we can raise awareness of the needs of sick children and the love and care which their families and health workers provide. The needs here in Armenia are very great and I wish to pay tribute to all the staff at the children's section of the hospital in Yerevan for their care and dedication. I give my sincere thanks to our sponsors, Lufthansa German Airlines and the Armenia Marriott Hotel, without whose generous help this event would not have been possible."

Kathy Mellor said: "BirthLink will support neonatal care in Armenia and Negorno Karabach in the future to help develop this specialist field and provide training to nurses and doctors."

Alex Nurock, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Armenia Marriott Hotel said: "It is part of our international brand to focus on our 'spirit to serve' in any destination where we are present."

Olena Antonove, Deputy Station Manager of Lufthansa German Airlines in Armenia, said: "We are proud to support this event and we hope that our contribution will benefit all those children in need."
