06 July 2017

Young patients at Chelsea and Westminser Hospital were treated to an afternoon in the fast lane yesterday when Lewis Hamilton, the voice of Hamilton in Cars 3, surprised them at a special pre-release screening of the film in our CW+ MediCinema.

Young patients at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital were treated to an afternoon in the fast lane yesterday when Lewis Hamilton, the voice of Hamilton in Cars 3, surprised them at a special pre-release screening of the film in the CW+ MediCinema.

Lewis Hamilton joined the fun in the foyer at CW+ MediCinema before the screening, where children and their families had the chance to meet the British Formula 1 racing champion. Hamilton then introduced the very special screening of Disney.Pixar Cars 3 before taking time to visit with those on the wards who were unable to leave their beds.

Lewis Hamilton said: "It was really cool to put on a screening of Cars 3 for the children and it's great that they're so excited to see it, I can't wait to see it myself! MediCinema is wonderful, the nurses, staff and volunteers at the cinema and hospital are brilliant and it was great to get to go along and meet some of them."

Imani, who attended with her mum, Ebony, said: “I've been in the hospital for nearly a week and felt very bored but in the MediCinema I've had lots of fun! I was really excited to meet Lewis Hamilton, we talked all about his racing, and I completely loved coming to MediCinema for this special screening - we thought Cars 3 was a roaring success! My dad is not here and is so jealous.”

Mohammed, pictured above left, said: "My favourite bit was the whole movie. I was a bit nervous about meeting Lewis, but I was surprised, and in the end it was lovely."

Vanessa Sloane, Director of Nursing, said: “We were delighted to welcome Lewis Hamilton to share some time with our children and their families. The children were thrilled to see him and were treated to face painting and goody bags from Disney before the special pre-screening.  They were all very excited to hear about his part in the film as well as his upcoming racing this weekend for which we wish him good luck! We are very thankful to Lewis & Disney for a very special visit.”

The third film in the popular Pixar franchise, Cars, is due to be released on 14 July. The CW+ MediCinema in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is run by the national charity, MediCinema, in partnership with CW+, the charity for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
