Midwifery colleagues have marked the launch of a new model of clinical supervision for midwives which they believe will provide greater opportunities for learning and development, ultimately improving care and experience for mothers.

A-EQUIP (advocating for education and quality improvement) is an employer led model of midwifery supervision that builds personal and professional resilience, enhances quality of care for women and babies and supports preparedness for appraisal and professional revalidation. The approach aims to ensure that action to improve quality and experience of care is an intrinsic part of everyone’s job, every day. Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Trust, which has the second largest maternity service in London, began using this new approach on 1 April 2017

Elke Hancock (Contact Supervisor of Midwives) said: “We are really excited to be a part of the new model and are very pleased that the Trust has decided to fully embrace the A-EQUIP model which means that midwives will benefit from a dedicated team that will support them in their practice.”
