The Vocational Development Team has been successful in being accepted onto the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (RoATP).

As an employer we will be able to deliver apprenticeship training to our own apprentices after 1 May 2017. These will be new healthcare support workers achieving the Level 2 Clinical Support Apprenticeship standard delivered in the Trust as an extension of the Excellence in Care course.

Andrea Wheeler (Clinical Vocational Development Lead—pictured above) said: “This year we will be able to offer 130 people the opportunity to work alongside our highly skilled and knowledgeable workforce, starting them on their NHS career path, and equipping them with all they need to achieve success.

“Being able to deliver these apprenticeships will give our patients and their families an assurance that our workforce has the expertise to provide safe, compassionate care.”

The new register aims to drive up the quality and quantity of apprenticeships. The register is central to the broader apprenticeship reforms being introduced and has higher quality requirements for provider applications.

Our current apprentices joined our wards in February and are attending the Excellence in Care course. The course includes all the statutory and mandatory training they require alongside the care certificate and other Trust training. We have recently recruited a further eight apprentices whom we look forward to welcoming at the beginning of April.
