£2k to fund dedicated wheelchairs for maternity at Chelsea and Westminster thanks to charity support

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital’s maternity department recently received four new wheelchairs from their charity CW+.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital’s maternity department recently received four new wheelchairs from their charity CW+.

The hospital’s Deputy Logistics Manager  Mark Leith applied for funding from CW+’s ‘Small Change Big Impact’ initiative, which gives grants of up to £2,000 for projects which improve patient experience.

Mark is delighted with the outcome and said: "By funding bespoke wheelchairs, not only have the patients in the maternity department benefitted, but this frees up four wheelchairs which the rest of the hospital will benefit from and the patient experience is a lot smoother and speedier.

Now the maternity department has its own wheelchairs, which mean that they are always available for patients who need them and they will not be taken to other wards. I would like to thank CW+ for funding these wheelchairs and for all their help and support.”

Head of Midwifery, Viv Bell added, “We are delighted to take delivery of these wheelchairs and would like to sincerely thank the charity for supporting this. Having these distinctive wheelchairs will mean that women can be quickly and safely transferred to the appropriate clinical area.”
