As Christmas week draws to a close we would like to wish all of our staff, patients and their families and friends a very happy Christmas and best wishes for 2017.

Light up a life

Our annual ‘Light up a Life’ events, held at each hospital, was a non-religious occasion for people to celebrate and remember loved ones and patients who are no longer with us. The services included a minute’s silence, music and readings, followed by refreshments.

Christmas at West Mid and Christmas at Chelsea and Westminster

Tue 6 Dec, 3–5pm at West Middlesex University Hospital

Christmas at West Mid was a fun, festive event for all the family and included a carol service, Christmas market stalls and much more. There was even a special visit from Father Christmas himself in our Santa’s Grotto.

Fri 9 Dec, 3–5pm at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital

Chelsea Pensioners from the Royal Hospital Chelsea officially opened the event at 3pm. There were live musical performers, including a regular favourite, Dick Laurie’s Elastic Band. There was lots of entertainment for the whole family including a Santa’s Grotto, face painting, teddy bear hospital, gingerbread decorating and much more. The event was closed with a special performance by Music’all and their is available on iTunes to raise money for Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity.

Friend’s Christmas Fair

Thu 8 Dec, 10am–2pm at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital

The Friends of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital held their annual Friend’s Christmas Fair in the main hospital atrium. The Christmas Fair featured fantastic stalls consisting of amazing cakes from Hummingbird bakery and Lola cupcakes—and toys, gifts and many more on offer on the day.

Light up a life

Light up a life took place at Chelsea and Westminster on 21 December and at West Middlesex on 22 December.

Wed 16 Dec, 4–6pm at West Middlesex University Hospital

Christmas at West Mid was a fun, festive event for all the family with live entertainment, Christmas market stalls, the Giggle Doctors and much more. There was even a special visit from Father Christmas himself in our Santa’s Grotto. The event, which was free to attend, was opened by the Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Nisar Malik and was open to everybody.

Thu 17 Dec, 4–6pm at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital

Chelsea Pensioners from the Royal Hospital Chelsea officially opened the event at 4pm. There was entertainment from musical performers, including a regular favourite, Dick Laurie’s Elastic Band. There was lots of entertainment for all the family including a Santa’s Grotto, face painting, teddy bear hospital (teddy or dolly check-ups), gingerbread decorating and much more.

The CW+ charity stand hosted Christmas card-making for patients on the wards and also celebrated the opening of the new CW+ MediCinema with special tours on the day.

Carol services

Thu 10 Dec, 12pm–12:45pm at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital

Chelsea and Westminster’s multi-faith chapel held their annual carol service on the ground floor this year with a staff choir and festive singing.

Thu 10 Dec, 2pm–3pm at West Middlesex University Hospital

West Mid welcomed the Royal Military School of Music for the carol service. Patients, staff and visitors were all welcome to join in the main atrium.

Christmas 2014

This year’s Christmas at Chelsea and Westminster event which took place on 11 December was the most successful yet! 

The Chelsea Pensioners switched on our Christmas tree lights at 4pm followed by live entertainment by Dick Laurie's Elastic Band, X-Factor’s Lola Saunders, and Welsh quintet All That Malarkey. 

During the evening there were stalls to explore and entertainment for children, including our popular Teddy Bear Hospital, the Giggle Doctors, gingerbread decorating and Santa's Grotto. The London Fire Brigade were on site to provide winter advice.

Thank you to everyone who came along, and also to our Council of Governors for supporting the event.

Light Up A Life

This year we held an additional Christmas event on Monday 22 December at 5pm called Light Up A Life—an event for the public, staff and patients to remember loved ones and patients who are no longer with us.

Light Up A Life took place in the hospital garden. The ceremony included a minute’s silence plus turning on fairy lights in the garden, music, hot drinks and mince pies.

Christmas 2013

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Christmas at Chelsea and Westminster!

This year Chelsea and Westminster Hospital once again celebrated Christmas with a special event on Tuesday 10 December from 4–6pm. Christmas at Chelsea and Westminster celebrated the festive season with our local community. The event was particularly focused towards local families with lots of entertainment for children during the evening.

Special guests, the Chelsea Pensioners, switched on our Christmas tree lights. This was followed by music from the All Saints Putney Junior Singers and Dick Laurie & The Elastic Band. During the evening there were lots of stalls to explore and entertainment for children, including our Teddy Bear Hospital, the Giggle Doctors, Christmas tree decorations and Santa's Grotto.

There were many other stands on display including wellbeing advice for the winter, hints and tips from our therapies teams and healthy options for the festive season from our dietetics department. We also displayed information about our current developments at the Trust including our plans to expand A&E and our new Midwife-Led Unit.

Christmas 2012

Hundreds celebrate Christmas at Chelsea and Westminster

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital celebrated the festive season with a special Christmas event on Monday 17 December.

Christmas at Chelsea and Westminster was a new event for the Trust for 2012 and was an opportunity to celebrate Christmas with our local community.

The event opened at 5pm when special guests the Chelsea Pensioners turned on the Christmas tree lights (photo—right).

This was followed by two hours of festivities including Santa's grotto, gingerbread decorating, Teddy Bear Hospital and Christmas tree decoration making.

Our hospital charities also had stands at the event and the giggle doctors were on hand raising smiles.

There were carols and Christmas songs performed by the All Saints Putney Junior Singers and music from Dick Laurie's Elastic Band.
